Uganda Has Enough Fuel To Last Up To June – Energy Minister Nankabirwa

Uganda has assured the public of fuel security through April and May 2026, with over 374 million litres of fuel imports incoming and sufficient current reserves.

Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa confirmed that stocks will last over two months, with new shipments comprising approximately 195 million litres of petrol and 155 million litres of diesel expected via Kenya and Tanzania.

Upcoming shipments to bolster reserves to 52 days for petrol and 44 days for diesel. The stocks comply with the Petroleum Supply Act, 2024, ensuring over 21 days of strategic reserves.

Despite Middle East conflict disruptions, the government urges against panic buying and assures that supply chains remain intact, even with potential price volatility.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, along with the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC), is monitoring global price fluctuations to prevent unjustified pump price hikes, Nankabirwa stated .
