UGANDA ELECTED FIRST VICE CHAIR OF AFRICAN UNION STC ON URBANISATION AND PUBLIC SERVICES
Uganda has been elected the first Vice Chair of the African Union Specialised Technical Committee (STC) on Local governments, Public services, urbanisation and human settlement .
The was during the Committee’s fourth session sitting in Cairo Egypt this week where Uganda was ably represented by the Minister of Lands ,Housing and Urban Development , Hon . Judith Nabakooba.
The meeting held under the auspices of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi was attended by ministers of local governments and urban development who engaged to tackle some of the challenges facing the peoples of Africa that included among others , climate change and food security .
under its new docket Uganda will handle urbanisation and human settlement in Africa. The Committee Chair position was supposed to be taken over by North Africa bloc but it was not possible as the member party states there requested for more time to consult prompting the conference to allow Uganda to serve in that position as well -in the interim .
In her address , Ms. Nabakooba said Uganda has hit the road running to mobilise the member states to mobilise resources to mitigate effects of climate change and ensure decent human settlements in Africa.
