Uganda Airlines Executive Director Jennifer Bamuturaki has said that the national carrier has spent at least Ug.shs. 120 Bn by purchasing local goods and services .

Bamuturaki however, hastened to add that there was need to improve on the quality of the locally produced goods and services if government’s BUBU policy of buying items produced in Uganda was to take root .

“There is still room to improve on the  quality of production, design and packaging in addition to being consistent,” she stated .

Bamuturaki was speaking at the Uganda Airlines suppliers’ forum 2024 in Kampala. She said Uganda airlines supplier database has grown to 200 suppliers in the 5 years of existence.

At the same time , Ug.Shs 120 billion has cumulatively been injected into the macro economy for local contracts but Bamutruraki said they still faced challenges of  inconsistency along the  supply chain.

“We have questionable quality and test procedural challenges among others, so we have come together and brought you into this room so that we can discuss and understand how we can support each other,” she said.

“We remain committed to supporting Ugandan products, as you can see the airline is moving in an era which is global and it is looking at value creation, innovation and finding solutions that minimize costs and sustainable businesses that make value for money,” Bamuturaki stressed .

“We remain committed to working with you to expand on the range of products that you can supply on competitive terms. But we also want you to grow with us by transforming into globally competitive companies that can supply quality products not just Uganda Airlines but the global legacy airlines.”

“But you will need to concentrate effort on improving quality across packaging, consistency in taste and supply,” Ms Bamuturaki said.

The forum was held under the theme: harnessing supply opportunities to drive procurement excellence.
