PRESIDENT MUSEVENI ISSUES NEW DIRECTIVES ON KAMPALA MARKETS
President .Yoweri Museveni has suspended all interim market committees due to their exploitative tendencies and directed that no vendors’ leaders should have direct working relations with KCCA staff including the market masters.
While meeting stakeholders drawn from the various Kampala markets Museveni further directed that vendors should now be in position to pay for their utilities like water and electricity and each to have a yaka meter and should maintain the principle of one vendor one stall or lock up. The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja and Minister for Kampala, Hajjat Misi Kabanda.
It was also resolved that the Market bills should be returned to parliament to review among others provisions that established the market committees which have been rejected by the vendors because they have been exploitative .
“Vendors will continue to associate and organize themselves into saccos to benefit from ongoing government programs like Emyooga ,Parish Development Model and Kcca shall pay for common utilities like water bills in toilets and lights in open spaces , provide for security and collect garbage.’
Market dues ( Empooza) to be paid at entry and not charged on the vendor in the markets.
