President Yoweri Museveni has fired embattled Trade Ministry PS Geraldine Ssali and replaced her with Alex Kakooza as the new Permanent Secretary .
Geraldine Ssali, was remanded at Luzira prisons by the Anti-Corruption Court for allegedly causing financial loss and colluding with Members of Parliament to embezzle billions of money meant for compensating cooperative societies across the country.

Kakooza has previously served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education until July 2021 and later as Principal Private Secretary to the Vice-President in the President’s office.
Geraldine Ssali was committed to the High Court for trial.
