Police Ban Presidential Candidates Convoys and Processions To Reduce Road Carnage

The Uganda Police has banned Presidential candidates convoys and processions during the on-going campaigns ahead of the generalelections in January ,2026.

The new directive follows increased accidents resulting from reckless driving and total disregard to road use regulations

While briefing journalists at Police Headquarters in Naguru ,Police Spokesperson ,Kituuma Rusoke refered to accidents registered at the weekend where motorists excorting candidaates were captured on police cameras while driving recklessly and others had the motor vehicle numbers covered .

Others were driving on the wrong sides of highway blocking on -coming traffic and causing endless jam.“ This cant not be accepted . Police will not allow this level on lawlessness to continue on the national roads. Concealing number plates and endangering lives through disorganized convoys is unacceptable and those involved will be arrested and prosecuted,” Kituuma vowed in an attempt to restored order on the roads.

Kittuuma Rusoke also called upon candidates and their respective supporters to strictly adhere to the guidelines set by the Electoral Commission (EC). “We urge all stakeholders to respect the law. Campaigns should not be a platform for impunity,” he stressed.
