MASTERCARD FOUNDATION GIVES MAKARERE 4BN TO REBUILD IVORY TOWER
Makerere university alumni , international organisations and companies are contributing funds to rebuild the Ivory Tower that was destroyed in an inferno that engulfed the 98 institute a week ago.
Mastercard foundation is donated IM USD an estimated (UG.SHS 4bn) to rebuild the burnt structures .”I am overwhelmed by the great show of solidarity by the Mastercard Foundation in rebuilding our damaged iconic and historic administration building through a pledge of 1 Million US Dollars. Makerere is immensely grateful for this generous contribution, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe the Vice Chancellor said.
Stanbic bank has also contributed 30 desktop computers and 10 laptops to the staff whose equipment was destroyed in the fire.
As the reconstruction work begins , officials have assured the public that Makerere university’s academic and financial records were safely stored in digital form and were not destroyed in a fierce fire that gutted the Ivory Tower-the 98 year old university’s iconic symbol.
