Kabaka Now Resorts to Prayer to Save Buganda Land
Kabaka of Ronald Muwenda Mutebi has now put the protection of his kingdom’s land in the hands of Allah.
He has appealed to all Muslims preparing for Eid al-Adha tomorrow to pray purposefully to God to save the kingdom’s property which he says is being targeted by ill-intentioned people.
The Kabaka’s Eid al-Adha message appeals to Muslims while making their sacrifice to beseech the Almighty to block all the paths of those targeting kingdom properties and voices against ownership of land so as to create hatred for Buganda.
The Kabaka has also put the integrity and sense of justice of the Eleventh Parliament in God’s hands praying so that they legislate for the whole country rather than for religions, regions or political camps.
During the 9th June Heroes Day Celebrations at Kololo, President Yoweri Museveni described Mailo land as an evil tenure system used in the Buganda Kingdom.
In apparent response, the Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga cautioned the government against interpreting the country’s land issues in political terms.
Instead, Mayiga guided that it’s not the Mailo land system that is causing the problem because because it has actually caused development in Uganda since it was introduced. Rather, according to the Katikkiro, land problems increased in the 1990s and 2000s.
Mayiga also warned against any enactment of controversial laws on Mailo land saying that even when enacted, they would be changed in the future.
