IGP Byakagaba, CGP Byabashaija Cash In As Govt Doubles Salaries Of Top Security Bosses
Government has doubled the salary of the senior police and prison commanders including the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abbas Byakagaba and Commissioner General of Prisons (CGP) Johnson Byabashaija enjoying the biggest share.
A public service salary structure for the Financial Year 2024/25, indicates that the IGP and CGP will have their salaries increased to Ug.Shs15.4 million per month, from Ug. Shs6.8 million. Their deputies, Deputy IGP James Ochaya and Deputy CGP Samuel Akena will have theirs raised to Ug. Shs13.8 million, up from Ug.Shs6.7 million.
Salaries for Assistant Inspector General of Police/Prisons (AIGP), will go up to Ug.shs.6.47m from Ug.Shs2.3m.
The changes are contained in a circular issued by Ministry of Public Service Permanent Secretary Catherine Bitarakwate dated June 30 ,2024.
“A total of Shs334.95b has been allocated for enhancement of lower ranks in the UPDF, all ranks except those already enhanced in the UPF, all ranks except those already enhanced in the Uganda Prisons Services, and some ranks in the ISO and the ESO to address pay disparities,” the circular reads in part.
Other beneficiaries of salary enhancements in the current financial year include ranks in the UPDF, the Internal Security Organisation and the External Security Organisation.
The enhancements, along with other recruitment of heads of departments in local governments, teachers and health personnel will see the total government wage go up from Ug.Shs222b, to Ug.Shs7.7 Trillion
