GP Abas Byakagaba has reaffirmed the Uganda Police Force’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of officers and their families during an inspection of Nsambya Police Barracks.
The IGP was accompanied by several senior officers, including the Director of Health Services, AIGP Dr. Moses Byaruhanga, and the Under Secretary, Mr. Aggrey Wunyi, among other senior officers.
During the visit, the IGP interacted with police officers residing in the barracks and their spouses at the K9 Base in Nsambya, where he listened to their concerns and outlined measures aimed at improving their living environment.
Addressing the gathering, the IGP emphasized the strategic importance of Nsambya Barracks, noting that it is more than just a residential facility.
“We assemble here today to emphasize that Nsambya Barracks is not merely a residential area; it is a strategic hub for personnel housing and deployment within Kampala Metropolitan Police.”
The IGP acknowledged the challenges affecting officers and their families and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to addressing them through practical and immediate interventions.
“Security and welfare begin at home. Aware of the challenges you face, we are rolling out immediate interventions in this financial year to restore dignity, safety and order at Nsambya Barracks.” said the IGP
He stressed that the welfare of police officers remains central to effective policing, noting that officers who operate in a safe, decent and dignified environment are better positioned to serve and protect the public.
The IGP further called upon officers and residents of the barracks to embrace discipline, cleanliness, responsibility and cooperation as the Force moves to transform police housing facilities into safer, more orderly and dignified communities.
He highlighted the strategic importance of the barracks and pledged practical interventions to address challenges affecting residents, restore dignity and improve living conditions.
