Electoral Commission Says Pending Local Governments Elections Will Be Held On February 4

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that Local Government Council elections in areas where voting was not conducted or concluded during the earlier scheduled polls. will now take place on Februray 4, 2026.

In a press release the Commission said Ugandans will vote for their prefered leaders in electoral areas across the country where polling was disrupted due to unforeseen circumstances. The EC says the exercise will cover elections at the city or district, municipality or city division, and sub-county, town or municipal division levels.

Elective positions to be contested include chairpersons, directly elected councillors, women councillors, and representatives of special interest groups—youths, older persons, workers, and persons with disabilities.

Voting will take place at all designated polling stations within the affected areas from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Counting of votes and declaration of results will begin immediately after the close of polling, in line with the law.

Political parties and independent candidates have been advised that they may deploy a maximum of two polling agents per polling station.

The Commission has called upon all stakeholders and voters to participate peacefully and to observe electoral laws, regulations, and guidelines to ensure a credible process.
