The Electoral Commission (EC) has kicked -off nominations for presidential candidates ahead of the 2026 general elections.
The exercise which officially started today 11th August 2025 will run until September 24th ,2025.
According to EC Spokesperson ,Julius Mucunguzi aspiring candidates will collect signatures from at least 100 registered voters in at least two-thirds of Uganda’s district -equivalent to 98 district as provided for by the electoral law.
Mucunguzi encouraged the aspirants to study the nomination guidelines carefully to ensure compliance with all the set legal requirements .
Among the over 20 candidates that picked nomination forms today , included former presidential candidate , john Katumba, 20 year old Jolly Najjemba , who recently completed her senior six ,Sam Koojo from Fort Portal and Pollin Nankambwe a student law at Uganda Christian University , among others.
