City Dwellers Happy With KCCA Move To Evict Street Vendors, Call For Boda Bodas Solution
Kampala dwellers interviewed so far have expressed optimism after authorities at KCAA moved decisively to remove vendros and restore law and order on the Capital City’s streets.
However , many are still demanding that KCAA should use the same force to rein in the menance that are boda bodas in and around the Central Business District (CBD).
Enforcement personnel from the Kampala Capital City Authority embarked on the implementation of an order to clear the streets of vendors on Friday . Some of those who turned up to shop in the CBD were delighted by the ease of movement, which had previously taken them several minutes to cover a short distance.
KCCA together with security agencies, demolished stalls belonging to vendors operating along roads and building arcades after the expiry of earlier eviction notices.
Traders under their umbrella bpody the Kampala City Traders Association had ealier threatened to petition Parliament and organise peaceful demonstrations if KCAA had not moved fast to remove vendors off the streets.
We wait to see if KCAA will also act decisively to streamline the operations of boda bodas who dont follow traffic rules and operate from none gazetted arears within the city .
