Uganda Communications Commission Sets Up Meeting With Managers Of Media Houses Over Hate Speech
Uganda Communications Commission, (UCC) has set up an urgent meeting with senior managers of media houses and broadcasters to address issues of hate speech.
In a letter dated 25th February, 2025 and signed by the UCC Executive Director, Nyombi Thembo, and adressed to all broadcasters, Chairperson National Association of Broadcasters, Chairperson Rural Broadcasters Association, Chairperson Uganda Media Owners Association, Chairperson Independent Online Journalists Association and Chairperson Online Media Publishers Association, he said the meeting will be addressing issues relating to increasing broadcast of content that is creating disharmony amongst the public.
“Such content is increasingly sensational, spreading hatred, and false information capable of inciting violence amongst the public,” writes Nyombi.
This after the CDF, General Kainerugaba Muhoozi at the weekend on his official X account expressed concern about publication of stories that spread hatred among Ugandans .
The meeting is scheduled for 27th February, 2025 at the UCC headquarters in Bugolobi at 9:00 am.
CEOs of media houses and representatives from the Ministry of ICT& National Guidance, and representatives from the security agencies are expected to attend..
