Rajiv Ruparelia (35), the only son of Ugandan tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia, has died in a motor accident along the Kampala southern bypass .
SP Michael Kananura , the police’s CLO Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, the fatal accident occurred in the wee hours of Saturday, May 3, 2025, at approximately 01:54 AM at the Busabala Flyover traffic lights, located in Makindye-Ssabagabo, Wakiso District.
Rajiv Ruparelia was driving a high powered white Nissan GTR -registration number UAT 638L which overturned and caught fire. The deceased burned body was taken to Mulago hospital for treatment.
Kananura, explained that the Rajiv lost control of the vehicle due to high soeed , hit temporary road barriers near a roundabout on the flyover and caught fire.
Born on January 2, 1990, Rajiv Ruparelia studied Financial Management at Regent’s University London before returning to Uganda in 2014 to join the Ruparelia Group. By 2017, he had become the Group’s Managing Director, overseeing major developments such as Speke Apartments, Kingdom Kampala, and Kampala Boulevard.
Rajive was the last born of Dr. sudhir ‘s three children. He rally cars enthusiast and a rally driver himself who joined the sport under the Rajiv Ruparelia Rally Team.

Sheena Ruparelia*: The second daughter, born on December 23, 1988. She’s married to Jay Sakaria since 2016 and has two daughters, Arie (born in 2019) and a younger daughter born in October 2022. Sheena is a Director at the Ruparelia Group and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Ruparelia Foundation, focusing on working with disadvantaged children.
Rajiv Ruparelia*( Rest in Eternal Peace ): Their only son, born on January 2, 1990. He’s married to Naiya Khagram Ruparelia since 2017 and had one daughter. Rajiv served as the Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group, overseeing 28 businesses and over 8,000 employees. He was also involved in various projects, including the development of a lavish five-star hotel, Entebbe Speke Resort and Convention Centre.
