KIIRA MOTORS AND LUWEERO INDUSTRIES LTD CARRY OUT PRE-DELIVERY INSPECTION WITH TONDEKA FOR FIVE BUSES BUILT IN NAKASONGOLA

Uganda’s automakers Kiira Motors Corporation LTD (KMC) together with Luweero Industries limited have carried out pre delivery inspection with Tondeka Bus Operators  for 5 buses built in  Nakasongola. The function was officiated by Hon Dr. Monica  Musenero and attended by stakeholders from Ministry of Works and Transport and  KCCA.

Earlier an  inter ministerial meeting was held led by the Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero Masanza Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Office of the President to discuss a  strategy for catalyzing the transition to e-mobility in Uganda . During the meeting a task force was constituted to work out a robust roadmap that will see Uganda transition to green mobility  technologies that will include electric vehicles and motorcycles .

This follows  HE President Yoweri Museveni s three addresses to the nation where he has emphasized the need to  switch to E mobility to mitigate against the global current fuel crisis that has led to high pump prices .

“The correct way to address the current fuel crisis in Uganda is to move from petrol to electric cars, buses, motor cycles and trains. Uganda should have made a full transition to Electric Vehicles within 20 Years,” President Museveni guided .

E-Mobility refers to clean and efficient transport, using electric vehicles, powered either by batteries or hydrogen fuel cells.

The Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Mr. Matia Kasaija has stated the his ministry strongly supports the strategy of transition to E-mobility as per the guidance of  President Museveni .


“We have already taken bold steps towards building a robust competitive & sustainable mobility industrial value chain in Uganda. Increasing adoption  and use of clean energy through use of electric transport solutions is a key intervention under sustainable energy development program  of NDP III,” Kasaija stated on his official twitter handle.

Phase one of the kiira vehicle Plant which has been constructed by the UPDF under NEC is at 98% completion and has capacity to produce 22 buses a day and 5,000 a year . Some of the Kiira Motors products now on the market include the much famed Kayoola EVs – the fully electric buses and the Kayoola Diesel Coaches (KDC).
