This time round , at least 300 residents of Mbale city slum dwellings have received their land titles. Nabakooba said the move will protect the urban poor from land grabs .
The majority of the people who received the titles were women . Nabakooba said many more people in urban centers across the country will be issued land titles to not only protect their land rights but also give them confidence to engage in sound economic activities and improve house hold incomes .

The ministry warned the beneficiaries against the habit of giving their titles to money lenders and the notorious land grabbers . Nabakooba said that the decision is premised on President Museveni’s promise to protect the urban poor from being evicted from their land.
