Investigative Journalist Risdel Kasasira Dies In Motor Accident At 45

 Former Daily Monitor investigative journalist Risdel Kasasira, (45), has been killed in a road motor accident.

Twaha Kasirye, the Police Spokesperson for Greater Masaka confirmed Kasasira’s death which he attributed to overspeeding.

“We have indeed registered a single fatal accident that has claimed journalist Risdel Kasasira which happened at 1:00 pm along Lyantonde – Kashagama road in Lyantonde district, at Kalagala village,” said Kasirye.

According to Kasirye, the deceased was travelling in a Corolla fielder vehicle, registration number UBK 851Y, with his wife, Nshimire Charlotte, who was driving, and their two children.

Kasirye said that the victims’ vehicle drowned in the water at Kalagala village after losing control.

Kasasira’s wife and the children aged five and three years are currently admitted at Lyantonde Hospital.

The deceased previously worked with The Daily Monitor newspaper and wrote award winning investigative stories mainly for the weekend editions ( Saturday and Sunday Monitor ). He also reported for the Associated Press (AP) and was currently a senior writer and Partner at the East African Centre for Investigative Reporting.

He had many trusted sources within government and the private sector and that helped us to report about public affairs with authority . We published powerful investigative reports that held public officials and politicians accountable,. Our circulation figures grew and the weekend editions were market leaders largely due to the efforts of smart journalists like Kasasira. May his soul rest in eternal peace and we pray for the rest of the bereaved family , ” said Moses Ssserwanga , former Editor of the Saturday and Sunday Monitor.

Kasasira’s stories mainly focused on politics, security, climate and health care.
