IGP Byakagaba Awards Cash To two Private Guards Who Refused A Bribe To Facilitate Theft Of Cattle In Kazo District

The Inspector General of Police, Abbas Byakagaba has rewarded two private security guards in Kazo District with cash Ug.Shs.500,000 each for refusing to take a bribe from suspects involved in the theft of cattle at a farm they were guarding in the area.

The two private security guards, Paul Okongo and Samuel Lokodo, from Eagle Eye Security Agency, a Private Security company, on instructions of the IGP received the cash award from the chairman Uganda Private Security Association, Mr. Grace Matsiko on December 16th, 2025.

Present as the money was handed over to the two guards at the Kazo Police District Headquarters were , Resident District Commissioner, Capt(rtd), Yahaya Kakooza who is the head of security committee in the area, the Local Council V chairman, Rev. Sam Katugunda, the District Police Commander, SSP Joseph Ndabimana, a representative of the DISO, Staff of the police who worked alongside the private security guards in the operation that also recovered the stolen cattle.

“I informed the IGP about the incident of cattle theft from a farm in Kazo where the two guards turned down an offer of a bribe and instead alerted police which acted swiftly and arrested the suspects and are facing prosecution” Grace Matsiko, head of the Uganda Private Security Association ( TUPSA ) said during the hand over of the cash reward.

“The IGP described the two guards as patriots who deserve a humble reward and gave me Ug.shs1,000,000 to hand it over to the . The reward underpines the cooperation between the Uganda Police Force and the private security sector in addressing crimes which undermines the social economic agenda of the country “Matsiko added. 

‘The IGP Byakagaba described the Private Security as a force multiplier and commended the area police under the DPC Kazo for the cooperation between Private Security players and police in successfully arresting the suspects in the case and called for similar cooperation throughout the country”Matsiko added. 

The RDC Capt Kakooza thanked the IGP for the award to the guards describing it as a motivation to all PSOs and other security personnel.

“The Private security guards to have ignored the bribe is exceptional’ Capt Kakooza said. The event today marks a golden day for us and is inline with President’ Yoweri Museveni’s message of primary foundation of security which has made Uganda stable” he said.

“I’am happy that when the private security guards offer intelligence about the theft of cattle and reprot these criinal activities to police which was alert. The standby force moved in swiftly and no wonder in the last six months crime rate in Kazo has gone down” he further added.

While welcoming the award to the private security guards by the IGP, he said all the police officers involved in the operation should be rewarded as well because of their quick  action on receiving the intelligence and acting on it promptly .
