FIFA Bans Ugandan Players and Referees For Match-Fixing
World football governing body, FIFA, has banned Ugandan players and referees who were earlier suspended by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) in 2023 for match fixing .
The players are Saleh Maganda (formerly of Calvary FC), Franco Oringa (formerly of Northern Gateway), Godfrey Lwesibawa, Yahaya Mahad Kakooza, and Andrew Waiswa (all formerly of Gadaffi FC).
The referees are George Nkurunziza and Deogracious Opio.
“Each player was handed a five-year ban, while the referees will serve a ten-year ban per person. These bans have now been extended by FIFA to include worldwide sanctions from all football activities. The extended sanctions have been communicated to the individuals by FIFA and FUFA and take effect immediately,” a FIFA communique states.
