Candidates For Parliamentary Seats To Be Nominated On October15-16th 2021- EC Boss Justice Byabakama

The nomination period for Parliamentary candidates, including those representing Special Interest Groups, has also been moved. Initially set for Sept. 16–17, 2025, nominations will now be held on Oct. 15–16, 2025 at the offices of the respective District/City Returning Officers. Relevant forms and guidelines will be downloadable from the Commission’s website beginning Aug. 11, 2025, the Electoral Commission Chairman, Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi has announced.
This after the Electoral Commission revised the nomination schedule for candidates in the 2025/2026 General Elections, affecting both local government and parliamentary contests.

Local Government Nominations
The nomination period for candidates contesting Local Government Councils positions, including Special Interest Groups such as Youths, Persons with Disabilities, and Older Persons, has been adjusted. The exercise, initially scheduled to run from Sept. 3–12, 2025, will now follow a staggered timeline:
- District/City Chairpersons, Lord Mayor, and Councillors: Sept. 3–5, 2025
- Municipality/City Division Chairpersons and Councillors: Sept. 8–10, 2025
- Sub County/Town/Municipal Division Chairpersons and Councillors: Sept. 11–24, 2025 (excluding weekends)

Nomination forms for district and municipal councilors, as well as sub-county councilors, will be available at respective District/City Electoral Commission offices starting Aug. 11, 2025. Forms for District Chairperson candidates will be available for download on the Commission’s website at www.ec.or.ug beginning the same day.
Parliamentary Nominations

Presidential Elections
The Commission has set Aug. 11–Sept. 24, 2025 as the official period for the collection of nomination forms and guidelines for the 2026 Presidential Elections.
During this time, presidential aspirants may obtain:
- Nomination forms
- Supporter forms (requiring signatures from at least 100 registered voters in at least two-thirds of Uganda’s districts)
- Guidelines for nomination and campaign-related activities
These documents must be collected in person from the Commission’s head office, located at Plot 1-3 & 5, 7th Street, Industrial Area, Kampala. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.
Representatives collecting forms on behalf of political parties must present written authorization from the party’s Secretary General or another designated official. Independent aspirants must provide proof of voter registration.
