USA EMBASSY ISSUES SECURITY ALERT AHEAD OF PRESIDENT MUSEVENI’s SWEARING IN GOVT OFFICIALS SAY SECURITY AND PEACE IS GUARANTEED
The US embassy in Kampala has issued a security alert to its citizens alleging that the 2021 Ugandan presidential inauguration scheduled for Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at the Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala “ is a political activity that may attract violence and crime .“
“U.S. citizens in Uganda should heighten awareness and caution during this period. The Ugandan presidential inauguration is a political activity that may attract large numbers of participants. This type of gathering may increase the risk of violence, crime, significant traffic disruptions, and COVID-19 transmission,” the embassy statement reads in part.
But security experts have dismissed the USA security warning as being “misplaced” because when the USA President Joe Biden was sworn in the US Capitol was guarded by well over 120,000 heavily armed troops .
“ Kampala and Uganda are very security and peaceful places and in most cases more secure than some cities in America. And they are talking about the spread of Covid-19. Actually , Uganda has done better than America in containing the spread of the deadly covid -19 Pandemic,” the experts noted.
Government officials who didn’t want to be named said that the USA statement ahead of President Museveni’s swearing -in was issued in bad faith with the embassy officials inuating that there will be demonstrations.
“Far from the truth . Let them be assured that his national event will go ahead without any incident and Ugandans shall continue to enjoy their peace and security they are used to for decades running now,” the officials said.
