President Museveni Meets Kenya’s President Ruto And His Archrival Former Prime Minister Odinga
- Agrees to back Odinga’s candidacy for the Chairmanship of the African Union Commission (AUC)
President Yoweri Museveni has met Kenya’s two political rivals President William Ruto and former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga at his Kisozi country home . Museveni has since agreed to back Odinga’s candidacy for the Chairmanship of the African Union Commission (AUC).
In a brief statement released on his official Twitter (X) handle Odinga said : “I am very grateful to President Museveni for strongly endorsing my candidacy and to President Ruto for fully backing it.”
The two leaders from Kenya were in Uganda at the invitation of President Museveni to discuss the deepening of regional integration within the East African Community (EAC) given that the bloc is navigating economic tensions between Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, and between Rwanda and Burundi, as well as the Democratic Republic of Congo.
President Ruto stated , “Kenya and Uganda are committed to the deepening of the long-established diplomatic and economic ties between our two countries. This relationship includes bringing all the seven East African Community nations closer in their ultimate goal to form the East African Political Federation.
Had the pleasure of meeting President Yoweri Museveni at his Kisozi country home in Uganda. We discussed critical issues that affect our two countries such as energy and petroleum.
Also discussed was the declared candidacy of Kenya’s former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for the Africa Union Commission chairmanship.”
