PRESIDENT MUSEVENI IS JOINED BY FIVE EAC PRESIDENTS TO MARK UAGNDA’s 60th INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY
President Yoweri Museveni has been joined by five other EAC presidents to Uganda’s 60th independence day anniversary at a colourful function held at Kololo independence grounds
Held under the theme,” October 9th; a declaration of African interdependence and our shared unity”, the celebrations which were closed for the general public due to the Covid -19 and Ebola virus , was attended by Kenya’s newly elected President Dr. William Ruto, Burundi’s Evariste Ndayishimye who is also the chairperson of the East African Community, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud(Somalia), Salva Kiir(South Sudan) and Zanzibar’s Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi – who also represented the Tanzanian president.
President Ruto said thus ” President Museveni as our elder. We have tremendous respect for him.He has the challenge to lead to bring down our boundaries so that we can have a borderless East African Community. We cannot share poverty and anger . But we can share opportunities and prosperity ,” Ruto stated eloquently , emphasizing that the community should eliminate the boundaries , borders and barriers that separate the peoples of East Africa.
On Saturday evening the heads of state were hosted to a state dinner by the host, President Museveni as Speke Resort Hotel in Munyonyo.
In a tweet after his arrival, President Ruto said the ties between Kenya and Uganda are now closer than ever.
“Had a great meeting with President Museveni at State House, Entebbe, Uganda, ahead of tomorrow’s 60th Independence Day celebrations. The Kenya – Uganda bond is growing stronger,”Ruto tweeted.
President Museveni said, “I held a fruitful discussion with President Ruto at State House Entebbe this evening, we discussed matters of mutual interest to our nations and people. Ungana nami kumkaribisha Rais wa Jamhuri ya Kenya.”
At Kololo Uganda exhibited its military advancements including airforce paratroopers that divided from the skies and innovations coming out of Uganda . Some of the innovations showcased included products in the E-mobility space . Under the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation led by Minister Dr. Monica Musenero – products such as the Kayoola fully electric buses and the Kayoola Diesel Coach produced by Uganda’s Automotive Industry captains – Kiira Motors Corporation were displayed at a parade witnessed by the foreign heads of state and other dignitaries .
The Ugandan made vehicles are also a big attraction at the Lugogo trade show .
