President Museveni , Buganda Kingdom Mourn Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga
Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has paid tribute to the late Raila Amolo Odinga, the former Prime Minister of Kenya, saying he was a freedom fighter and a strong voice for Pan-Africanism.
In a statement President Museveni expressed deep sadness upon receiving news of Raila Odinga’s death. Museveni said Odinga was not only a career politician but also a patriot in the tradition of his father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya’s first Vice President.
“Ideologically speaking, they have been with the patriotic and Pan-Africanist orientation. I have shared ideas with both of them. Their sentiments have been for the unity of Kenya, East Africa and Africa, including always supporting the struggles for the realization of our dream for the East African Federation,” Museveni said.

“It is, therefore, unfortunate that he has left at this moment. It is important for the young people to fill the void left by such historical fighters for Africa’s future,” he added.
President Museveni extended his condolences to President William Ruto, the people of Kenya, and Raila Odinga’s family.
At the same time the Buganda Kingdome has sent condolences to the family of the late Odinga .
The Katikiiro of Buganda Kingdom (Premier) ,Mr Charles Peter Mayiga, writing on his official X handle , said the kingdom of Buganda has enjoyed longstanding ties with the Odinga family , stating that the relationship has been “long and close,” dating back to the era of Ssekabaka Edward Muteesa II.

Mayiga expressed profound sadness over Odinga’s passing, acknowledging the late leader’s contributions to Kenya’s political landscape and constitutional development.
“I express my condolences to members of his family, friends, Kenyans, and all East Africans. May the Lord receive his soul,” he wrote. Mayiga further noted Odinga’s achievements beyond politics, recognising his influence as a businessman ,and his broad impact on East Africa’s socio-economic and political spheres.

In 2013 ,Odinga was invitedto attend Kabaka’s Coronation Anniversary in Mengo Palace commonly known asLubiri where he was a special guest and President Museveni was chief guest .
