NRM CAUCUS RESOLVES ON THE PROPOSED UPDF AMENDMENT ACT
The NRM Parliamentary Caucus has unanimously resolved to support the proposed amendments to the UPDF Act as presented by the Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka.
The Government Chief Whip, Denis Hamson Obua, who is also the Caucus Chairperson, said the resolutions, in respect to the Supreme Court ruling, were on the following broad principles: that misconduct by serving military personnel be tried, in the first instance, by the military Courts Martial, with the right of appeal through the civilian courts.
That civilians who acquire specified firearms illegally be tried by the Military Courts Martial, in the first instance, with the right of appeal through the civilian courts.
That provision be made to provide for rights of appeal from decisions of Courts Martial to Civilian Courts.
The Caucus, guided by President Yoweri Museveni, also received the Budget Prioritization for Financial Year 2025/2026 as presented by the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, and deferred debate to the next NRM Caucus Meeting.
