EC Chairman Justice Byabakama Announces April 25th to May 8 The Period For Display of National Voters Register Countrywide


The Electoral Commission Chairman, Justice Simon Byabakama has announced the display of national voters’ register and registers for special interest groups.
He said display of national voters’ register and register for special interest groups will run from April 25 to May 8, 2025 and stressed that that there will be no extension for those who will miss out during the set period.
Justice Byabakama Mugenyi, explained that the purpose for display of national voters register is to enable voters check the correctness of their particulars on the voters’ register, check whether the photograph appears against correct particulars on the register, raise objection for inclusion and removal from the voters register and to report to the display officer for removal of those who died, under the age of 18years and those who appear more than once on the voters’ register.
The display exercise will be carried out on daily basis including weekends from 8am-6pm. The total number of polling stations across the country now stands at 38,315.
According to Byabakama 620 polling stations (1.6% ) will not display voters’ register due to technical problems that occurred during the production of voters register. The affected polling stations are in districts/ cities of Kampala, Wakiso , Mukono, Masaka, Buvuma , Arua city and Fort Portal city among others. He however ,revealed that display exercise accounts for 98.4 % polling stations across the country.
He assured the affected voters that they will be accorded full statutory 21 days for display of their registers when the errors are corrected .
Additionally , the display of national register for the youths, people with disabilities and older persons will also run from April 25 -May 8, 2025.
The EC boss further stated that they will l recruit national and international observers to observe the 2026 General Elections to ensure accountability and transparency .
After this verification exercise, the commission will announce the exact number of voters who will participate in the 2026 General Elections.
