Uganda’s Minister Nabakooba Assumes New African Union Role

Uganda’s Lands Minister, Judith Nabakooba Nalule , has assumed the chairmanship of the African Union’s Specialised Technical Committee no. 8 (AU-STC No.8) on Public service, Local Government , Urban Development and Decentralisation.

The handover ceremony took place in Tunisia’s capital city Tunis , marking a significant milestone for Uganda’s leadership in Africa’s urban development initiatives .

In her new role as the chairperson , Nabakooba has committed to advancing sustainable urbanization, to enhance public services and promote effective local governance across the African continent .

Nabakooba said that during her tenure she will focus implementing the African Urban agenda , aligning it with  the AU’s Agenda 2063, and preparing the upcoming Africa Urban Forum in 2026.  “We further commit our energies towards accelerating the ratification and implementation of other African Charters under the AU- STC No.8 and ensure that they translate into concrete actionable areas to steer our continent to greater heights,” she added.

Nabakooba’s  new  continental mandate  further cements Uganda’s dedication to foster collaborative solutions for urban challenges , and reflects the Uganda government’s influence in shaping  Africa’s urban future.
