Nabakooba commissions USMID-AF road works in Entebbe says politicians should join hands to support government projects in their constituencies
By Ronald Mugabi Lands, Housing and Urban Development minister Judith Nabakooba has commissioned the construction of roads and beautification of Entebbe Municipality under the multi- billion Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) program. The Minister called for -value for money and told the contractor- China Wu Yi Company Ltd and the supervising consultants to deliver high quality works and on time . “Entebbe is a very strategic town in our country, because you host president’s official residence ,the International Airport, the UN base, other important sites like the Zoo, lake Victoria and its beautiful beaches. Entebbe can affect the first impression of a new visitor to Uganda. This means, you influence our tourism and you must be exemplary,’ Nabakooba stated . Hon. Nabakooba who was received in the area by the Entebbe Municipality Mayor Fabrice Rulinda and RDC Nuhu Njuki -for the groundbreaking ceremony- flagged-off the construction works estimated to cost Shs13.4bn and to be completed in a period of 15 months. Civil works will be carried out on Kampala Road, Apolo square, Auxiliary road, Market street access, Hill lane access, Lugard road access and upgrading the Kitoro taxi park phase I. Lights will also be installed at the mayor’s gardens and general beautification of the municipality. The roads will have pedestrian walk ways, covered drains, conduits for utilities like Telecoms and IT, water and sewerage, electricity, bicycle ways, trees, garbage cans, waiting shades, street parking and good solar street lights. “ I will come to be part of the commissioning, to pride ourselves in the great work we shall have delivered to the people of Entebbe,” the Minister stated . Nabakooba noted that since Entebbe municipality was part of the 14 pioneer -local governments to benefit under the USMID program, they already have the competences to ensure that all the program expectations are met . The Entebbe Municipality Mayor Fabrice Rulinda said that the Entebbe community was ready for business and economic growth that is anticipated as a results of improved services due to modern infrastructure .“We have a rich history and a lot to offer. We don’t want people to just go to the beach. We want to transform Entebbe into one of the most beautiful cities in Uganda . The RDC Nuhu Njuki vowed to superintend- over the implementation of all government programs in the area to ensure the delivery of quality , timely public services to the people . The Deputy Town Clerk .Ms. Aisha Kitenda pledged her technical staff’s commitment to supervise and have the successful implementation of the project works. The event was also attended by the USMID -AF Project Coordinator , Dr. Eng. Isaac Mutenyo who is hailed for implementing what is considered to be a largely successful national development project spread across 30 municipalities and refugee hosting districts . |
