Kabaka’s Sister, Diana Balizzamuggale Teyeggala Ndege, Dead At 59
Princess Diana Balizzamuggale Teyeggala Ndege, the last-born child of Edward Frederick William David Walugembe Mutebi Luwangula Muteesa II, has died after a period of illness, Uganda’s Buganda Kingdom said on Saturday. She was 59.
The kingdom said Princess Diana passed away at a medical facility in Kisubi, in central Uganda. No details were given about the illness.
Born in October 1966 while her father, Ssekabaka Muteesa II, was in exile, Princess Diana never met him before his death.
Her mother was Princess Catherine Karungu of Ankole, according to Buganda royal records.
Princess Diana was a younger sister of the reigning monarch, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, and a member of the immediate Buganda royal family.
Buganda’s prime minister, Charles Peter Mayiga, confirmed the death and conveyed condolences on behalf of the Kabaka, the royal household and the kingdom, urging the public to observe calm and respect the family’s privacy.
