CEC Race: Among Wins with 11,680 Votes, Kadaga Gets 905 Votes Threatens To Quit NRM Party
Speaker of Parliament Anita Among won the hotly contested CEC position from National Vice Chair (Female) beating her arch rival and veteran woman politician Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga with 11,680 votes. Kadaga received 905 votes and has threatened to quit the NRM party she has served for over three decades .
” I deeply thank everone who stood by me despite massive bribery and intimidation. But if this oppression persists we shall be left with no option but to walk away ,” a bitter Kadaga stated.
Among swept votes from delegates hailing from the West Nile region with decisive victories: Zombo (66–0), Nebbi (117–0), Pakwach (60–0), Moyo (67–0), and strong margins in Yumbe. Among is also leading with votes from delegates hailing from the East , Buganda and Western regions.
The hotly contested race followed sharp exchanges between the two women leaders during the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting at State House which was presided over by President Yoweri Museveni at the weekend.
